KUCHING: Single Mothers Association or Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Sarawak (Pitsa) has officially opened its store at Level 1, Urban Transformation Centre Sarawak (UTC) here, yesterday.
Named as Pitsa BaGUS (Barangan Guna Semula), the store sells pre-loved items such as coats, blouses, baju kurung, hijabs and fashionable outfits.
The launching ceremony was graced by the Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, who is also Pitsa patron.
Based on the “buy and donate” theme, Pitsa BaGUS is one of the projects that can generate income whilst enhancing entrepreneurial spirit and skills.
This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, UTC management and Sarawak Information System Sdn Bhd (Sains).
This effort will not only reduce quality textiles disposal to the dumping site, but also raises awareness that used goods still have value.
Pitsa members will continue to collect used goods through recycling campaigns and will reproduce the goods to be sold. Thus, the public are encouraged to donate their used goods to the association.
In the future Pitsa BaGUS also plans to expand its product line to footwear, handbags and household items.

Pitsa is a non-profit organisation and was set up to assist single mothers to generate income for their families.
Amongst those present were the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Bakrie Zaini and Pitsa president Salmah Ibrahim.
