BAU: Thousands of country music lovers converged on Seniawan old town over the weekend for the fourth edition of Siniawan Country Music Festival (SCMF).

Themed ‘Take me home to Siniawan’ the two-night festival embodies unity through music. It is a platform for everyone, regardless of age or background to experience arts and culture.

The Siniawan Country Music Festival 2019 showcased music, dance, photography and vast array of food along this rustic town ensuring that there is something for everyone to savour.

The two-night festival which began on Friday rejuvenated this old town with people from all walks of life including foreign tourists, indulging in the music and the local delicacies.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting who officiated at the festival on Friday said it showcased the harmony in diversity among Sarawakians and acceptance of each other’s culture and heritage in peaceful co-existence.

“We must continue to maintain this peace and harmony which is the envy of many states in Malaya.

“The ministry will continue to support this event to ensure it will get better and bigger in future,” he said.

Ting pointed out that the state government would always support efforts by the relevant agencies in promoting Sarawak’s tourism products in order to boost the state’s tourism sector.

SCMF patron Miro Simuh said the festival was a much-anticipated event for many country music lovers.

“The festival portrays the unique cultures and unity that we have in Sarawak. We see a lot of people from different backgrounds and races come to enjoy the music and meet up with friends and family members.”

Miro who is also Serembu assemblyman noted that the festival is featured in the Sarawak Tourism calendar. Next year, the organising committee, with the assistance of Sarawak Tourism Board, will carry out early promotion for the event to attract more foreigners and international tourists to come to Sarawak for the festival.

“We are going to make an early promotion next year so we can attract more foreign and international tourists to come and enjoy the music and what we have here,” he pointed out.
