Six arrested for rioting in front of police station

KUCHING: Police arrested six persons aged between 20 and 27 for rioting on Sunday night.

Sarawak CID SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar said the incident occurred around 8.30 pm at the open space near Giant Hypermart, Kota Padawan.

For whatever reasons, it is believed that a member from one of two groups had jumped on the bonnet of a car belonging to the other group, thus damaging it.

This resulted in a quarrel between the two groups and both parties then decided to seek justice at the Kota Padawan Police Station.

However, on arrival at the police station tempers began to flare and a scuffle broke out before the guardians of the law.

It was then a free for all for the two groups but fortunately, members from both parties sustained only minor injuries.

A video recording of the incident went viral on the social media.

Police arrested six of them under Section 148 of the penal code.
