SERIAN: Police have arrested six unemployed persons including a woman for alleged substance abuse in an operation called ‘Ops Tapis’.

The operation was carried out by the district’s NCID team from 6.30pm onwards in Kampung Rayang last Friday.

The first arrested was a man inside an unnumbered house in the village. Inspections found a black bag containing seven transparent plastic packets containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu.

The second person was also arrested in the same location where police also seized a cigarette box that contained a plastic packet with crystalline lumps believed to be syabu.

Also during the same operation, a woman and three men were arrested in the same village on suspicion of engaging in drug-related activities.

Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis, who confirmed the arrests, said all arrested persons aged between 17 and 31 were taken to Serian police station for further actions.

“All have tested positive for drugs and are now placed in the station’s lock-up. The market value for the drugs is estimated to be RM450 and is believed to be distributed to addicts in the district and nearby villages,” he said.

He added that all the cases will be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Such operation will be carried out continuously in the future to curb drug trafficking and drug abuse in the district, especially in rural areas.

Aswandy hoped that the people will continue to be alert to such problem in their villages and give information to the police.
