Six caught for illegal cockfight

MIRI: Two senior citizens in their 60s and 70s were amongst six arrested by Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for involvement in illegal cockfighting.

These men were caught during a raid made under an operation dubbed ‘Ops Dadu’ on Sunday afternoon (Jan 24).

In the 2.30pm raid, police also seized two dead cockerels, a weighing machine and a betting board.

All suspects and the seized items were brought to Miri central police station (CPS) for questioning.

Police said the raid was conducted at an open space in the outskirt of Miri City.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962, which carries the maximum fine of RM1,000 or an imprisonment of up to three months in default.
