LINGGA: The Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) here recently celebrated the wedding anniversaries of six elderly couples.
The couples, who were also its members, have been married for over 40 years.
The celebration, the first time of its kind held here, was organised by PAWE Lingga in collaboration with Sri Aman Division Welfare Office and attended by Lingga State Assemblywoman, Simon Peri.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to celebrate with these elderly couples,” said Simoi.
Among the couples were Penghulu Kampung Lingga and Chairman of PAWE Lingga, Haji Jamari Abang Edi and his wife.
All the couples took part in a parade and “tepung tawar” (blessing) ceremony. They also participated in the cutting of a yellow glutinous rice cake.
Also present were Sri Aman Resident, Indit Bangai, a representative of the Sri Aman District Officer, Mohd Hamizan Yahya, Assistant Administrative Officer of Lingga, Mohd Ellfizan Paukan, a representative of Sri Aman Welfare Officer and Special Officer of the Batang Lupar Member of Parliament, Mohd Nazri Sarkawi and Nurul Shuhada Mohd Zaidi from the Senior Citizen Coordinating Unit of Sri Aman Welfare Office.
