KUCHING: A woman and five local men aged 20 to 28 were compounded last Tuesday night for failure in adhering to physical distancing rules.

Kuching District acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa in confirming this, said at approximately 11.05pm, a police team from the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) led by an officer from its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspected a bistro located in the Saradise commercial area, here.

“During the inspection, six local individuals were found to have committed an offence for non-compliance with the set SOP (standard operating procedure) guidelines. All of the individuals failed to maintain physical distancing while being at the premises.

“Monitoring of these SOPs will be carried out 24 hours with the assistance of members of other enforcement agencies to ensure public compliance,” he said today.

Merbin ensured that law enforcement would be carried out fairly and professionally by the police, especially to control and prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic through strict law enforcement actions.

“Public members are advised to always be aware and comply with the SOPs set by the National Security Council (MKN) to avoid being infected and be subjected to legal action,” he said.

He also called on the public, especially premises’ operators and customers in particular, to always follow the government’s instructions during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period.

“This is so that the enforcement authorities and the community as a whole can work together to break the chain of Covid-19 infection,” he said.
