SIBU: Some five Sarawak Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (ICSS) here and one in Sarikei received grants amounting to RM3.54 million from the Sarawak government yesterday (Oct 20).

The schools in Sibu are Citizen Middle School, Sekolah Menengah (SM) Guong Ming, SM Wong Nai Siong, SM Khian Hin, and SM Catholic as well as SM Ming Lik in Sarikei.

The grants were presented by Sarawak United Association of Private Chinese Secondary Schools Management Board secretary Kong Chung Ming in a brief ceremony at Dewan SM Wong Nai Siong witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said that the Sarawak government would continue to provide assistance to ensure that Chinese private schools will continue to grow.

“We need to thank former Chief Minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, who started giving funds to Chinese schools and recognising the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
