KUCHING: A man was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing four bottles of perfume from a leading supermarket in Jalan Demak Baru.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced Mohazie Sebli, 36, after the latter plead guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code which was read in front of him.
According to the charges, he committed the act in a leading supermarket in Jalan Demak Baru at around 6pm last September 17.
The section provides for an imprisonment for a term up to seven years and can be fined upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who was on duty in the security department saw a suspicious man (accused) and followed him to the cashier counter.
The man proceeded to leave without paying and was then successfully arrested by the complainant.
The result of the inspection of the accused found that four bottles of perfume stolen by the accused were placed in his bag and trousers.
The complainant then contacted the police for action and further investigation after handing over the accused.
The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
