Six months’ jail for breaking into grocery store

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a 39-year-old man to six months in jail for breaking into a grocery store and stole items worth RM3,020 at Jalan Rock two years ago.

The accused, Roland pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 457 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

Syarifah ordered the accused to serve his time effective today (Mar 30).

Based on the charge, he is accused of breaking into a storage belonging to a grocery store in Jalan Rock at around 9 am on Apr 1, 2021.

According to the facts of the case, on Apr 1, 2021, at around 9 am, the complainant (shop owner) arrived at the premises and found that the roller shutter had been forcibly opened.

CCTV footage showed that a man had broken into the shop and made off with items such as a cash box, RM600 in cash, two amplifier control and a smartphone.

The estimated losses incurred is around RM3,020.

The complainant then lodged a police report for further action, which led to the accused’s arrest at around 10 am along Jalan Gersik on June 9, 2021.

Investigations found that the accused confessed to breaking into and stealing items from the complainant’s shop and CCTV footage clearly caught the accused red handed.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
