Six months’ jail for stealing parcel boxes

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to six months’ jail after he stole three parcel boxes from a delivery company premises.

Accused Mohammad Syukor Tuah, 29, pleaded guilty to one charge which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

According to the charge, he and his friend had stolen two boxes of medical supplies and a box of medicines.

He and his friend committed the crime in front of a delivery company at Jalan Sekama around 4.30 pm on May 9.

The accused was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

If convicted, he can be sentenced up to a maximum of seven years’ jail or a fine or both.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is an employee of the delivery company, and his co-worker were unloading the goods into a van to be delivered to a designated location.

Suddenly two men on a motorcycle suddenly approached the van and ran away with three boxes of the consignment.

The complainant and his friend managed to chase and arrest one of the suspects. They then handed him over to the police for further action.

The case was handled by prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
