Six nabbed for illegal cockfighting

Police seize the roosters that were used for illegal cockfighting at Jalan Fairy Cave, Bau.

BAU: Six men were arrested on Saturday for taking part in an illegal cockfighting session at Jalan Fairy Cave.

Bau district police chief, DSP Poge Nyaon said a team from Bau Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted an ‘Ops Dadu’ raid around 11am at a field at the location.

When the team arrived, they found six locals, aged between 16 to 73, involved in a cockfighting session.

“During the operations, police also seized six live roosters, two dead roosters, a weighing scale and a knife,” he said in a statement.

Poge added all the men did not have any past record of any offences.

He added all those arrested were being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962, as well as Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 6) Regulations 2020 for conditional movement control order (CMCO) violation.

If convicted under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962, an offender can be fined RM1,000 or three months’ jail.

Those guilty of CMCO violation can be fined not more than RM1,000 or six months’ jail or both.
