Six nabbed in gambling den raid

BAU: A premises used as a centre for illegal betting on the current European football championship and online gambling operations in Taman Senggi, Jalan Bau-Kuching was raided by the police last Tuesday (June 15).

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the raid was carried out by the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) of the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) together with the Bau District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under Ops Soga at 5.15pm.

He said during the raid, six individuals including two women aged between 20 to 27 years old inside the premises were arrested.

“All the suspects, including two Indonesian nationals, were arrested to assist in the investigation,” he said today.

Police also seized six sets of computers, laptops, along with various types of computer equipment and mobile phones believed to be used for the illicit activity.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 (3) of the Betting Act 1953 and 4 (1) (g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“Meanwhile, the two Indonesian nationals arrested are also being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he added.
