Six new clusters announced

KUCHING: The State Health Department has announced the emergence of six new Covid-19 clusters in the district of Kuching.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) stated that the six new clusters are Kampung Tupong Cluster, Jalan Foochow Cluster, Besi Dua Cluster, Skim Penempatan Stapok 2 Cluster, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim Cluster and Jalan Rubber Dua Cluster.

On the Kampung Tupong Cluster, the committee said it is a community cluster involving a few families residing in Kampung Tupong, Jalan Astana in Petra Jaya.

A total of 183 individuals were screened in which 29 including the case index tested positive while 154 are negative.

The Jalan Foochow Cluster is also a community cluster involving residents at a housing estate at Jalan Foochow 1.

A total of 105 individuals were screened in which 39 including the case index tested positive while 66 tested negative.

The Besi Dua Cluster is a workplace cluster involving workers at a metal factory located at Demak Laut industrial area on Jalan Demak Laut in Petra Jaya.

A total of 140 individuals were screened in which 18 including the case index tested positive while 122 tested negative.

The Skim Penempatan Stapok 2 Cluster is another community cluster involving a few families residing at Skim Penempatan Stapok, Jalan Stephen Yong in Batu Kawa.

A total of 85 individuals were screened in which 22 including the case index tested positive while 63 tested negative.

The Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim Cluster is a workplace cluster detected involving premise worker from a transportation company located at Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim in Pending.

A total of 124 individuals were screened in which 20 including the case index are positive, 86 are negative and 18 are still waiting for laboratory test results.

The Jalan Rubber Dua Cluster is another workplace cluster involving traders of a coffee shop business premises located at Jalan Rubber. 

A total of 66 individuals were screened in which seven including the case index are positive, 38 are negative and 21 are still waiting for laboratory result.

All the positive cases from six clusters have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) in the Kuching district.

At the same time, the committee said the Industri 121 Kuala Baram Cluster in Miri and Sungai Setajam Cluster in Sarikei have ended after no new cases were detected in the past 28 days.

The state currently has 103 active Covid-19 clusters.
