Six new clusters declared

KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared six new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak on Saturday (Aug 28).

Three of the new clusters were community clusters, with the other three being workplace clusters.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the first cluster, known as Green Plantation 01 Cluster is a workplace cluster detected in an oil palm plantation under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Beluru District.

Of the 209 people who were screened, 19 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 17 tested negative and 173 are still waiting for results. The cluster reported 14 new cases today.

The second cluster, known as Kampung Simpok Cluster is a community cluster detected involving the residents of Kampung Simpok in Serian District.

Of the 150 people who were screened, 102 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 48 tested negative. The cluster recorded nine new cases today.

The committee said the third cluster, namely the Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya Cluster is a community cluster detected involving the residents of Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya in Kuching District.

Of the 55 people who were screened, 27 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 28 tested negative.

The fourth cluster, known as the Jalan Kilang Pending Cluster is a workplace cluster detected involving workers in a factory located at Jalan Kilang Pending Industrial Estate in Kuching District.

Of the 111 people who were screened, 69 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 42 tested negative.

The committee said that the fifth cluster, namely the Merajang Cluster is a community cluster detected involving residents of a longhouse located at Kampung Merajang in Limbang District.

Of the 74 people who were screened, 25 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 49 tested negative. The cluster reported 20 new cases today.

The sixth cluster, known as the Bandar Baru Mukah Cluster is a workplace cluster detected involving a courier service company in Bandar Baru Mukah in Mukah District.

Of the 109 people who were screened, 52 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 56 tested negative, and one still waiting for the result.

All positive cases are now receiving treatment at hospitals their respective districts.

The SDMC also reported the end of a cluster namely the Jalan Sungai Tapang Custer in Kuching District after no new cases were recorded involving this cluster in the last 28 days.

Presently, there are 131 active clusters in the state, with 25 clusters recording 300 new additional cases and the other 106 recorded no new cases.

On the status of districts in Sarawak, the committee said Sarikei dan Beluru Districts had changed from orange to red after recording 46 and 49 local infection cases respectively in the past fortnight. 

Limbang District has changed from yellow to orange after reporting 23 local infection cases in the last 28 days. 

For Marudi District, it said that the status had changed from green to orange after recording 33 local infection cases in the past two weeks.

To date, there are 28 districts in the red zone, five districts in the orange zone, six district in the yellow zone, and only one district in the green zone.
