Six of nine Triso ferry point victims laid to rest

SIMANGGANG: A mother and her five children who were among nine killed after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) that they were in plunged into the Batang Lupar on Friday (Jan 1) were laid to rest at the Kampung Hulu Islamic Cemetery here on Saturday (Jan 2).

Siti Aisyah Abdullah, 36, and her youngest child, Mohd Ahmad, four, were laid to rest in a single plot.

Her other four children — Nur Syuhada, Khairunnisa, Aiman and Mustaqim — were buried in separate burial plots.

The ‘talqin’ prayer was completed at 6.20pm.

Earlier, all six bodies arrived at the Bandar Sri Aman Mosque at 4.40pm for funeral prayers.

Some 100 attended the prayers which were also attended by Siti Aisyah’s husband, Mohamad Hamzah Razali, and their fourth child, Mohd Imran Syafie.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 people witnessed the funeral procession and paid their last respects.

The other three non-Muslim relatives who perished in the incident were taken to Sibu for burial.

They are Ronany Ting, Wallace Phang and Alvin Phang.

The Triso ferry point tragedy happened when their 4WD vehicle plunged into the river while they were on their way from Kapit to Kuching.

The incident was the state’s first tragedy of the year and was also the first involving the Sebuyau-Triso ferry point.
