Slight drop in number of Covid-19 cases on Thursday

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,413 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (Oct 7), a slight drop from the day’s before of 1,503.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 1,387 cases (98.16 percent) were Category 1 and 2 while 26 cases (1.84 percent) were Category 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching accounted for the highest number of cases at 387, followed by Miri (193), Sibu (131), Bintulu (94), Bau (85), Pusa (77), Serian (58), Limbang (51), Betong (50), Mukah (33), Sarikei (32), Kanowit (30), Samarahan (27) and Sri Aman (22).

Fourteen cases were reported in Daro, 10 each in Saratok and Asajaya, nine each in Kapit and Simunjan, followed by eight each in Lubok Antu, Maradong and Pakan.

Tanjung Manis and Julau recorded seven cases each. Six cases each were reported in Belaga, Subis and Selangau, five cases each in Tebedu and Kambong, followed by Telang Usan (four); Song and Dalat (three each); Tatau, Beluru and Matu (two each) and one in Bukit Mabong.

The state’s cumulative total is 221,042 as of Thursday.

On another note, SDMC declared the end of four clusters, namely Tembok Sri Aman in Sri Aman District, Telok Batu in Meradong District, Sungai Segan in Bintulu District and Suchong Balut in Julau District, after no new cases were reported in the last 28 days.

As of Thursday, there are still 89 active clusters in Sarawak, with 10 recording 55 new cases.
