Slightly fewer new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,354 new COVID-19 cases today, slightly fewer than the previous day, bringing the cumulative number to 278,631 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update said, five cases were in Categories 3 and 4 respectively, while three cases were in Category 5.

Aside from that, a total of 623 cases were in Category 1 and 718 in Category 2.

“Kuching topped the list with 563 cases, followed by Miri with 215, 98 cases in Sibu and Bintulu respectively, Kota Samarahan has 59 cases, and 50 cases in Serian.

“Sarikei recorded 41 cases; Tanjung Manis (32); Limbang (27); Sri Aman (22); 14 each in Betong and Saratok; 13 each in Bau, Mukah and Marudi; Dalat (12); Lawas (11); nine each in Kapit and Subis; Meradong (eight); Lundu (six); and five cases in Simunjan and Lubok Antu respectively.

“Kabong recorded three cases, two each in Pakan, Kanowit, Tebedu and Asajaya, and one each in Daro, Tatau, Telang Usan, Beluru, Selangau and Belaga,” the committee said.

SDMC also disclosed that there were two Covid-19 fatalities, one in Serian (on Mar 10) and one in Bau (on Mar 12).

In Serian, the victim, a 78-year-old woman who was brought in dead (BID) to Serian Hospital, had no history of diseases.

In Bau, the victim, a 74-year-old woman who passed away in Bau Hospital, had high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, diabetes and a history of heart disease.

On non-compliance to the standard operating procedures, Kuching police had issued a total of 12 compounds for failing to register the MySejahtera at premises (11) and failing to wear a face mask (one).

This brings the total number of compounds issued by Sarawak police to 13,591.

There were 48 new persons under surveillance and 227 still undergoing quarantine at designated hotels.

The total number of persons under surveillance who have been discharged from quarantine stands at 167,724.
