Slow down on yellow lines

MUKAH: Yellow lines painted across certain section of the roads here mean something to some road users as it is part of the road safety measures implemented by the authorities.

However, others took it for granted and did not slow down their vehicles while going through the lines.

Road users should have known better the purpose of the yellow lines as they have learnt traffic rules and regulations prior to obtaining their drivers licence.

Among the locations where the yellow lines are found here are at the junctions of Jalan Mukah-Balingian/Jalan Tellian and Jalan Wawasan/Jalan Tellian.

New Sarawak Tribune today and on many occasions found out that some road users did not slow down when going through the yellow lines, whether there were vehicles or no vehicles on the road.

They simply went over 70 kilometres-per-hour and it seemed to be “business as usual” (not slowing down) to them.

The two road junctions have their respective record of accident cases over the past years.

It was learned that the Jalan Mukah-Balingian/Jalan Tellian junction has more accidents cases compared to the Jalan Wawasan/Jalan Tellian junction.

In terms of fatal crashes, the Jalan Wawasan/Jalan Tellian junction had recorded one death last November, where a motorcyclist was killed on the spot when his bike collided with a car.

There are no new fatal accident cases at the Jalan Mukah-Balingian/Jalan Tellian junction so far this year.
