KUCHING: The public have been urged to do their roles in slowing down the rate of Covid-19 transmission in the state.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this is needed to prevent more deaths from occurring due to Covid-19.
“We need to buy time to slow the transmission so our hospitals are not overwhelmed and for our medical services to not collapse.
“At the same time, we want to prevent more deaths as (victims to Covid-19 casualties) are getting younger — less than 50 years old as reported in SDMC’s statement on June 4.
“With this, by June we can get the antibodies to form in our bodies when the vaccines are being rolled out,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (June 5).
Meanwhile, Dr Sim said the declaration of another work-related cluster, the Jalan Muara Cluster which involved a bird-nest business, was expected.
“Since schools and workplaces have been closed, positive cases have steadily decreased.
“This is proven scientifically again and again; when there are gatherings – social or non-social, family or work place, schools or places of worships — they will lead to increase in cases,” he said.
