KUCHING: It is good news for those residing near Lorong Batu Kawah 1C3, Sunny Hill Park here.

This is because they will get to enjoy better and more facilities as its park will be upgraded.

In revealing this, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the facilities, among others, included upgrading and building new footpaths, upgrading of existing benches and gazebo, installation of three new gym stations, solar lighting and spoon drains.

“The project is carried under my rural transformation project (RTP) fund at a cost of RM150,000.

“With the upgrading work commencing today (yesterday), it is expected to take about four months to complete,” he said.

He said this to reporters before handing the RTP funds for the upgrading of the park facilities at the park compound here yesterday.

On the upgrading of the park facilities, Lo who is also the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, said it was also upon the request of the residents living in the area.

“I’m not a magician and I don’t have billions. So I can’t turn the whole park overnight into something very complete, but we’re going to do all this in stages, not just in Sunny Hill Park, but also those in the whole of Batu Kitang constituency.

“Slowly, one park after another, we are improving them,” he said.

He also said going on the ground to listen to the needs of the people was important.

“We are going down to the ground and talking to the rakyat. We understand better what our people want most.

“And so we are able to spend the RM5 million RTP fund allocated by the state government to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives annually for the benefit of our people,” he said.

Lo added in MPP there are also 32 councillors and they would also go to the ground to listen and get feedback pertaining to the people’s needs.

“Through our councillors, we understand what our people want, and during the council’s meeting, we decide what to do and we advise our YBs (elected representative) to carry out these projects and to turn the wishes of our people into reality,” Lo pointed out.
