KUCHING: The Kelab Kakitangan Sarawak Multimedia Authority (KKSMA) held its first blood donation drive in support of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank donation campaign.

The half-day event held at the SMA Creative Heritage Innovation Hub managed to collect 37 pints of blood from both SMA staff and members of the public.

“We are encouraged to know that 70 percent of the donors were first timers. Moving forward, the plan is to hold this donation drive four times a year, hopefully to turn these supportive first timers into regular donors,” remarked Mohamad Nor Hisyam, chairman of KKSMA.

Covid-19 has disrupted the way people conduct routines. Hence, rallying blood donors to replenish blood stock, albeit under enhanced standard operating procedures, is a good reminder that blood donation is an ongoing necessity.

Besides the free service, the mini-physical examination to qualify to become a donor can offer excellent insight into one’s health. But most of all, blood donation saves lives.

“The general wellbeing of our staff has always been a priority. And to share the purpose through this blood donation drive is our contribution to benefit the society,” enthused Dr Zaidi Razak, general manager of SMA.

Organisations that wish to contribute towards SGH’s blood donation campaign can contact Mohd Borhan Ahmad Ulis, Public Relations Officer, SGH Blood Bank at 082-276797.
