KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan believes
that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made a smart manoeuvre by not
appointing a deputy prime minister.
“This move stopped all lobbying for the post,” he
told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday when he commented on the new federal Cabinet
which Muhyiddin announced last Monday.
Snowdan, who is also Youth and Sports Assistant Minister,
said it was also heartening that Muhyiddin was quite generous to Sarawak by
giving it four full ministers and five deputy ministers’ posts.
“The numbers would have sufficed and Sarawak would
still be well represented even if Bersatu’s Ali Biju and Willie Monggin were
not in,” he said.
Snowdan was glad that Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (GPS) got
the Senior Minister cum Minister of Works portfolio as he could facilitate the
Pan Borneo Highway project which had been rescheduled by the previous
government.
“Completion of the Pan Borneo Highway project shall be
in our priority list,” he said.
He also noted that the other appointed state leaders like
Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Datuk
Seri Nancy Shukri are familiar experienced faces to Putrajaya.
“Now they are back with enthusiasm, much to Sarawak
pride and delights,” he said.
As for PRS, he said they were glad that their MP Datuk Aaron
Ago Dagang was appointed as Second Deputy Minister of Health.
“PRS Youth therefore wishes to thank the prime minister
for that, and for having included new faces from Sarawak like Datuk Seri Tiong
King Sing, Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Hasbi Habibollah and Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib
in his Cabinet,” he said.
“We trust that as our MPs will pursue Sarawak’s
interests, especially in respect to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) now that
we have the Ministry of National Unity as well as Sarawak-Sabah Affairs
Ministry helmed by Sabahan Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.”
He added that PRS Youth concurred and welcomed the
appointment of corporate figure like Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul
Aziz, a former CIMB CEO, which is familiar with finance and the Treasury, which
appropriate considering the current global economic challenges.
He looks forward to working together with the new Minister
of Youth and Sports and his deputy.
