SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has caught a total number of 693 dogs in the year 2015 and 351 dogs in the year 2016.

According to chairman of SMC, Datuk Tiong Thai King, a total of 366 dogs were impounded since the beginning of the year until 25th July 2017.

“For the month of July alone, which is from 1st until 25th July 2017, council has impounded a total number of 110 dogs. Thus, members of the public are advised to apply for dog licence from the council as the number of dog licenced with the council to date is only 97.

“Therefore, I appeal to all dog owners to be responsible for their pets and get them licenced and keep them within their own compound,” Tiong said.

He said this at the full council meeting held here yesterday.

In view of the recent incidents of rabies disease outbreak, Tiong advised the public to take preventive measure by ensuring that their pets are kept within their own house compounds.

“I would also like to advise the public not to bring back pets from declared rabies infected areas and to seek medical treatment if bitten by dogs or cats,” he said.

He stressed that the council had put efforts for ongoing dog catching activities and public may also contact council for any request to catch dogs within their vicinity.
