SIBU: A total of 30 saplings were planted during a Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) trees planting project in conjunction with the SMC Love Earth Day 2022 at Permai Lake Garden today.

Its organising chairman councillor Ling Hua Wei said the tree planting project was one of its series of projects for this year.

“As we mentioned during our launching in April this year, we want to make our Love Earth Day different, which is continuously throughout the year with a series of projects.

“Now it’s entering the final quarter of the year, we are still continuing,” he said at the event.

Ling noted that SMC has targeted a total of 100 trees to be planted this year and has currently planted 72.

“We are still continuing to ‘Invest in Our Planet’ which is the theme of International Earth Day for this year and eyeing to achieve 100 trees before the end of this year.

“Sibu is our home, and we should be ready in many ways, and together let’s make Sibu a better place, a safer, cleaner, and healthier home for us and our next generation,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMC Chairman Clarence Ting said SMC is planting the trees on the edge of the park to form a wall so that the park will be private.

Also present were the West Chester Ohio Mayor Wong Leong Hua, guests from Hawaii Ted Roberts and Chisato Ishimura as well as SMC staff.
