MIRI: Teachers of Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan (SMK) Merbau Miri sprayed disinfectants in the classrooms two weeks before Hari Raya in preparation for the reopening of school.

However, the exact date for the reopening is unknown as there is no official notice from the Ministry of Education (MOE) yet.

According to the teacher in charge of student affairs, Ng Wei Mun, the reopening classes will only involve 567 students from the examination classes of Form Five and Form Six.

“Prior to Raya, two weeks before the celebration, our school teachers began cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and other facilities including the corridor to reduce the risk of exposure to Covid 19,” he said.

Ng added the number of students in a classroom would be limited as a preventive measure against Covid-19 when schools reopened.

“For example, we have 15 classrooms for Form Five, and due to this situation (Covid-19), we will break them into 27 classrooms,” he explained.

“We will have less than 15 students inside a classroom to minimise the risk and keep them safe in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the MOE on social distancing,” Ng explained.
