MIRI: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Merbau yesterday received a pat on the back from Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin for its excellent achievement at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (Itex ’19), Malaysia held from March 2-4 in Kuala Lumpur with its invention, Evra Smart-G.

Because of the achievement, the school will be representing Malaysia in Taiwan this December.

During the exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, the team was represented by Vanessa Serawa Suel, Emmelyn Manyie Sibat and Richard Laing.

Lee attributed the school’s success to a holistic approach that allowed students to be more critical, confident and independent.

Speaking at the school’s second edition of co-curriculum achievement award presentations yesterday, Lee said education was not just about excelling academically.

“Co-curricular activities are also important in our educational system as they actually prepare students to be holistic,” he added.

Lee pointed out that students should strive to do well academically and in curricular activities.
