KUCHING: An attempt to smuggle four motorcycles to Indonesia via an illegal route near the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Kampung Stass was foiled by soldiers.

According to sources, the soldiers who were involved in Op Serkap, spotted five individuals, believed to be foreigners, riding on their motorcycles at 5am.

The foreigners were then asked to stop for an inspection. Instead the men abandoned the motorcycles and fled towards the neighbouring country.

Upon further inspection of the motorcycles, soldiers found that the men also left behind their belongings along with a heavy duty steel cutter.

The motorcycles and seized items were then brought to the Bau District police headquarters for further action.

Its district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon, when contacted, confirmed the matter and revealed that all four motorcycles had earlier been reported missing by the owners.

“Two of the reported missing motorcycles were believed to have been stolen on Thursday night at Taman Janting,” he said, adding that investigations were ongoing.
