MIRI: An attempt to smuggle in various types of tobacco products and liquors was foiled with the arrest of a local man by the Marine Police Region 5 on Today (27 Sept) afternoon.

According to Miri district police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the man was arrested after the police stopped and inspected a van at Jalan Utama Pujut Padang Kerbau here around 12.30pm.

During the inspection, police discovered that the van was loaded with boxes containing contraband cigarettes and liquors estimated to be worth over RM32,200.

Police also seized the van worth about RM12,000. The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
