Snatch thief in custody, teacher recovers necklace

SIBU: Police have arrested a local man for snatching a RM1,500 gold necklace from a woman teacher on Saturday (July 16).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 43-year-old suspect was arrested around 12.40pm on Monday (July 18).

“Also seized from the suspect, was the gold necklace belonging to the 53-year-old victim.

“Background checks found that the suspect had several priors,” he said, adding, “he will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 392 of the Penal Code.”

On Sunday (July 17), the Sibu central police station received a report from the victim stating that her gold necklace was snatched by an unknown man.

The incident happened around 11.30am just after she alighted from her car at a car park along Jalan Lebuh Tinggi.

As she was walking to a hotel, an unidentified man on a motorcycle snatched the victim’s necklace, leaving her otherwise unscathed.
