MUKAH: Social media will be an important tool to attract young voters especially in the Balingian and Mukah areas in the 15th general election (GE15).

According to Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, the young voters are synonymous with social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and other social media platforms.

“Based on the previous state election records, young voters do not have a problem with the current government and social media is widely accepted.

“We will continue to organise programmes for youth, activities such as kite flying, sports and many more to attract the young voters,” he said.

He said this during the ‘Leaders Meet the People Programme’ for Balingian constituency here yesterday (Nov 6).

He also pointed out that being on the ground was still a main priority and would visit the Balingian constituency to meet the voters and provide advice to them to make sure they vote wisely for the right party.

However, the Mukah election machinery for the Balingian constituency which was in full gear during the last state election in Dec last year, is fully prepared for the coming general election.

“We will continue to do the same in this coming 15th general election and is completely ready,” he explained.

In saying that, he advised the youths aged 18 to 21 to vote responsibly.

“Do not be completely oblivious to the information you have heard on social media and the fake news that is available, think prudently and observe the current development that is for the people.

“We in GPS do not choose races, we go to all races and from a political standpoint in Sarawak, we are much more stable”, he said.
