KUCHING: Kuching Life Care Society (KLCS) charity sales held at the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Community Hall yesterday raised over RM200,000.

That’s RM200,000 for its Hospice and Palliative Care Centre project.

Thus far the society has raised over RM8 million whereas to have a building with full medical equipment will cost it RM10 million.

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, when met at the event yesterday, said he was grateful to see many kind and caring people supporting the good cause.

“This is one thing that makes Sarawak very unique. When it comes to charity event, people of all races put aside their differences to help the needy and come together to build the society together,” he said.

He called on more Kuching people to come forward and support other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and charitable bodies.

“While we are moving towards the smart city era, we not only need smart human resource but also need people with a kind soul willing to help those around them,” he said.

Meanwhile, KLCS chairman Hung Sung Huo said the construction of the building is expected to commence after Chinese New Year next year.

“We are still waiting for the Land and Survey Department and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to approve the building plan,” he said.

Hung said the society has already obtained approval from the Ministry of Health (MoH) in May this year regarding its operation.

Over 80 booths were set up during the charity sale.
