MIRI: A grant of RM50,000 has been presented to Miri Buddhist Meditation Society as a contribution in assisting the society’s temple project here.

Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin handed over the cheque to the society’s chairman Chua Soon Teng during a simple ceremony at the society’s premises located at Canada Hill on Wednesday (Aug 11).

Earlier, Lee was being briefed on the slope protection project which is next to the temple during his visit to the area.

The building of the retaining wall for the temple is to avoid any landslide from occurring due to heavy downpour.

“The project commenced on July 21 this year, and it will be completed within three stages.

“Currently, the project is still in stage one which involves construction of several levels of gabion stone as foundation,” he said.

Lee, who is also the Sarawak Transport Minister said the total cost of the project under stage one is about RM200,000.
