KUCHING: An attempt to smuggle out controlled goods and alcoholic beverages (liquor) was successfully foiled by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) during an operation with the 11th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment on Tuesday.
A spokesperson from the First Malaysian Infantry Division said that the seizure was made at 9.15pm during a patrol at the plantation area at Kampung Stands, Bau, some 100 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
The operation headed by Sergeant Harrie Rosli managed to detain a lorry driven by a local, who was accompanied by his assistant, who is an Indonesian.
“Upon further checks, controlled goods and liquor were found in the lorry which were believed to be smuggled out into the neighbouring country. All the seized items including the lorry are estimated to worth RM102,900.”
Both suspects were then taken to the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action.
