MIRI: The city council (MCC) is looking into a long term solution against dengue for communities in Taman Tunku here.

Mayor Adam Yii said the council was engaging the community in trying out various approaches which could resolve the recurring dengue outbreaks in the area.

“We are considering holding periodic gotong-royong as part of our awareness programme to enlighten the community on cleanliness,” Yii said when met after inspecting works on the Miri City Hall at Marina Bay yesterday.

“We need community cooperation and support in tackling dengue,” he opined.

A total of 25 cases of dengue fever have been reported at Taman Tunku since its outbreak in the housing estate two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, construction work is progressing smoothly on the MCC which began on July 25 this year.

The nine-storey building costing over RM57,231,000 will house the council’s operation including function rooms and is expected to be completed in December 2020.

The elevated City Hall tower is shaped like an oil barrel, honouring Miri as an oil producing region where the first oil well was discovered in 1910.

The council has adopted the ‘Seahorse’ as the city’s official symbol.
