Somalian delegation gets briefing on energy initiatives

Abdirizak and his delegation were briefed by Lau on Sarawak Energy’s business and 100 years of operations.

KUCHING: A Somalian delegation held discussions with Sarawak Energy Berhad recently on sustainability initiatives and opportunities for collaboration.

Officials from its Ministry of Energy and Water Resources led by its director-general Abdirizak Mohamed Muhumad, were in Sarawak on a work visit.

They were accompanied by a team from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) led by Professor Dr Musse Mohamud Ahmed.

Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili represented by SESCO CEO Lau Kim Swee and members of the senior management team greeted the delegation and briefed them on the company’s business as well as 100 years of operations.

A statement said both parties spoke on sustainability initiatives and opportunities for purposeful collaborations and investment Sarawak has to offer in the renewable energy sector particularly through the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

Lau also shared Sarawak’s journey and experience in renewable energy development and how hydropower is contributing towards the acceleration of Sarawak’s economic growth towards achieving high income status by 2030 as well as the shift towards a green energy economy.

Aside from that, Abdirizak was informed on Sarawak’s regional powerhouse ambition to expand the state’s renewable energy footprint and drive an economy that prioritises clean energy in line with the global call to mitigate climate change.

The work visit concluded with a site visit to South-East Asia’s first Integrated Hydrogen Production Plant and Refuelling Station here in Kuching.
