KUCHING: The Covid-19 vaccination programme in Malaysia is scheduled to start next month.

It will consist of three phases. The first phase will be for the frontliners, followed by the higher risk population, especially those who are old, those with high cholesterol and diabetes and lastly, the lower risk population.

Although there are people who hope they can get their hands on the vaccines as soon as possible, some, on the other hand, do not trust them and afraid of the side effects.

Sales manager, Ashvini Vijayan said, “I heard that the vaccines come with some side effects. I have decided to wait for most of the population to get vaccinated first just to see how it goes. If the vaccines turn out to be safe, I will go for the vaccination.”

Undergraduate Ayuni Munirah said, “I am actually worried for the frontliners and the prime minister because they will be the first ones to be vaccinated. I heard that the vaccines are still undergoing trial runs. We don’t know whether they will be safe or effective.”

Retiree Wong Boon Kheng said, “I will not be taking the vaccination until the vaccines are proven to be safe. I don’t mind waiting longer.”

Restaurant owner, Choong Joyee said, “Finally the vaccines are here and it won’t be long before I get my vaccination. My restaurant has suffered a lot due to this pandemic.”

Terminal manager, Anna Hiu, said, “The vaccination programme will have a positive effect on Malaysia. The Covid-19 cases will decrease and when the pandemic ends, we can resume our normal lifestyle.”
