The proposal to replace the Textbook Loan Scheme (SPBT) to the Computer Loan Scheme (SPK) needs to be seen in various aspects.

For almost half a century of use, many teachers still prefer SPBT as they believe that SPBT is still relevant and SPK is less practical.

However, in line with current developments, our country’s education system also needs transformation.

Here are the views of some members of the public.

I do not agree with the implementation of the SPK at the primary school level because the pupils are still not good at operating computers. I am worried other problems will arise, causing the government to incur high costs when the computers break down.

I do not agree with the idea of replacing the SPBT with the SPK because students in rural areas do not have good Internet access.

On a positive note, SPK will further facilitate the learning process of students because they can access various reference materials more easily. However, the disadvantage is Internet access — not all students live in areas with good Internet access. In addition, if the computer breaks down, the cost of repair is considerably expensive.

As textbooks are always lost and misplaced by students, they too can lose their computers. Therefore, the government should study more in-depth on the implementation of SPK. For me, SPBT is still relevant and practical.

The proposal to replace SPBT with SPK is a wise decision provided that the government gives computers that are equipped with Internet access.
