MIRI: A musical performance entitled ‘Miri Transformasi Kemajuan’ will be held on Nov 1 starting from 7.30pm at Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel here.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting said the ministry though the Sarawak Arts Council in collaboration with Miri Resident will be organising the event which is going to be performed by the Sarawak Orchestra Symphony (SONS).

“This will be the second time SONS will be performing Miri,” he told reporters in a press conference on Monday (Oct 26).

He said before Miri, the group has performed in Kuching on Oct 24, and after this they will be going to Lawas, Sibu, Betong and other parts of Sarawak.

“As for the theme, it will be accordance with the rapid development in Miri.

“The purpose of this orchestra is to promote SONS and to create a bond with the local folk in Miri,” he said, adding that under SONS, the group is divided into four categories namely SONS Pop and Jazz, SONS Classic, SONS Choir, and SONS Junior@Permata Anak Seni.

Ting said due to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set in order to curb the spread of Covid-19, only 400 people will be allowed into the venue.

He added that frontliners will also be invited to join as a sign of appreciation of their efforts in looking after the people in Miri during the pandemic.

The musical performance will be free of charge, and the Miri Resident Office will start distributing tickets on Tuesday (Oct 27).

Also present were Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf and Sarawak Arts Council chief executive officer Sharkawi Amit.
