SIBU: The Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association (Soppoa) has donated RM20,000 to help buy personal protection equipment (PPE) for frontline health workers in Sarawak.
The donation was channelled through the Sarawak Covid-19 3D Printers Union, which operates in Kuching, Bintulu and Miri and here.
In a media statement issued yesterday, Soppoa said the union fabricated equipment such as innovative safety face shields.
“Our members appreciate and recognise the concerted effort and generosity of the Sarawak Covid-19 3D Printers Union to our health workers in Sarawak.
“This donation is a contribution towards the state government’s efforts in fighting Covid-19 in the state,” said its chairman David Tiong.
He said Soppoa’s council has agreed to make the donation following a request by 3D Printers Union through its representative Alex Tong.
Tiong said it was notable that volunteers of the union went out on their own to source for funds for their activities in support of the state’s efforts to put a stop to the spread of Covid-19.
Soppoa, he said, encouraged more organisations to support this initiative.
On the extension of the movement control order (MCO) to May 12, Soppoa said it was fully supportive of it and would abide by all the safety regulations.
Tiong said Soppoa members were strictly abiding by the directives issued by the authorities and ensuring that all employees were kept safe and in full compliance of the MCO.
