South Korean company to operate in Samalaju by 2021

KUCHING: South Korean company Dongjin Semichem Co Ltd has recently received land approval from the state government for its proposed production factory in Samalaju Industrial Park, Bintulu.

With the latest development, the company, which holds 30 per cent of the world’s market share in foaming agent, is expected to start operations of its factory in the state by 2021.

Foaming agent is widely used in household appliances, bags, shoes, and automotive parts.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan informed Dongjin Semichem Co officials about the approval during his visit to the company’s manufacturing plant in Shiwha, Seoul, Korea yesterday.

Awang Tengah is currently on a working visit to Korea.

Among those accompanying him were Entrepreneur Development and Small and Medium Enterprise Assistant Minister Datuk Naroden Majais; Industrial Development Assistant Minister Malcolm Mussen Lamoh; and Industrial and Entreprenuer Development Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Liaw Soon Eng.

During the visit, they were briefed on the company’s operations and later guided to view its production line.

The company is expected to initially invest USD130 million for its proposed factory in Samalaju, which upon completion would offer 500 job opportunities.

The factory is expected to be completed and operational by 2021. Once completed, the factory will be Dongjin Semichem’s third foaming agent production plant, after two others in South Korea and Indonesia.
