KUCHING: The Southern Zone will be moving into Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) on Friday (Oct 1).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the decision was made by the Health Department and National Security Council (NSC) Sarawak after conducting a risk assessment and taking into consideration the three NRP threshold indicators for the zone.

“The committee has agreed that the Southern Zone, which comprises the districts of Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian and Tebedu will move into Phase Three of the NRP.

“Thus, the whole of Sarawak will be in Phase Three of the NRP effective Oct 1,” SDMC said on Monday (Sept 27).

SDMC also agreed to allow additional activities to resume starting Oct 1 in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set.

The SOPs for specific sectors can be accessed at the respective ministry’s website which will be uploaded by this week.

“Under the Ministry of Local Housing and Government, forecast (lottery) operators, spas, wellness and reflexology centres, beauty centres, cybercafes, children toys stores as well as recreation centres like snooker, billiard and prawn fishing are permitted to operate.

“As for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, swimming pools, gymnasiums, Zumba studios or premises, yoga, and other sports activities as well as tourism activities and tourist attraction products under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture are also permitted.”

However, police permit is still needed for inter- district travel.

“Drivers and workers for vehicle carrying items and essential services are required to undergo the RTK-Antigen or Saliva Test every seven days apart from obtaining police permit if they are required to conduct duties involving frequent inter- district travel. This decision is effective Sept 28.”
