Spaoh Cycling Club (SCC) members celebrate winning the overall title in cycling competitions held in conjunction with Bungin Festival recently.

SPAOH: To-date, a total of 20 members have been registered with Spaoh Cycling Club (SCC) and its main focus is to organise more mountain bike sports in the area.

The club president Kipeni Mersai said, originally, the mountain bike activities were carried out around Spaoh area with more activities for solo riders rather than in a group.

However, since it was well received by extreme sports enthusiasts, the SCC club is formed.

According to him, SCC activities are being held everyday starting from 4.30pm for weekdays and 7.30am for weekends with cycling distance about 60km to 70km across the off-road.

“Usually, on working days, we will cycling with at least eight members while, on non-working days or during weekends, about 20 members will participate in our expedition,” he added.

Kipeni said SCC was officially established last year and its membership is open to all regardless of age, including ‘fixie’ enthusiasts.

Their members often gather in Spaoh-Bungin-Debak road and Spaoh-Betong road by organising various activities besides discussing other related activities.

On the cycling expedition, Kipeni said the mountain bike race activities demand riders going across multiple natural barriers such as ascending and descending the hills as well as crossing the streams, an event which is gaining popularity in this state.

However, the challenging passage and winding hills were not so difficult for extreme sports enthusiasts which cause many such competitions being held regularly throughout the year.

Such activities often become great options for those who like to test their physical and mental endurance besides enjoying the view of nature,” said Kipeni.
