LIMBANG: Orphaned students in the district have received financial assistance from the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) here.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Modernisation and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail expressed his gratitude to PERKIM Limbang for the initiative as it helps the needy in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri.

“Today’s contribution is not a contribution from government funds, this is a personal contribution from donors who donated through PERKIM. The collected donations amounted to RM10,000 and it is probably more than the previous year,” he said.

He said at the Hari Raya Donation Presentation Ceremony and Virtual Closing Ceremony of the Tadarus al-Quran PERKIM Limbang at the Baitul Iman Mosque here on Sunday (Apr 24).

The Bukit Kota Assemblyman also thanked the guardians, mothers and fathers for taking care of and nurturing the orphans as it is a heavy responsibility.

“We will try to help in various ways,” he said, adding that the Federal Government and the State Government have provided assistance through the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

“Most of the recipients here are those who receive monthly assistance from JKM. It is clear that it is the duty and responsibility of a government to look after the welfare and well-being of its people,” he added.

A total of 200 recipients consisting of various groups such as orphans throughout primary schools in Limbang, children separated from their parents, single mothers among PERKIM members with many dependents, and children of PERKIM members with disabilities (OKU) received the donation.
