KUCHING: The Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 5.0 is timely. With a spike in Covid-19 cases and a flood crisis at hand, the people will surely benefit from this assistance, said Utilities (Water Supply) assistant minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

“Through BKSS 5.0, the Sarawak government gives electricity bills discount of five to 25 percent for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers from January to June 2021.

“Discounts are also given on water bills ranging from 10 to 25 percent and 50 percent discounts on market and stall rentals which will benefit 10,000 hawkers registered under the Local Authorities (PBT),” he said on Thursday.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also assistant minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs & DBKU) said the state government also provides an exemption for permit payments and business licenses.

“Small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) are given exemption from rental payments operating in business premises owned by statutory bodies and Sarawak government-linked companies (GLCs)

“The Sarawak government also provides a 25 percent discount on gate tax rate assessment and a 50 per cent discount on the rental of the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Housing Scheme,” he said.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman said the 30 per cent discount given for land tax benefits over 52,400 residential, commercial and industrial centres, large-scale plantations and other public facilities.

“Exemption is given for the payment of hotel and guest house licenses while

one-off deferment of payment is given for land premium.

“It is hoped that the assistance provided can benefit the people of Sarawak in facing the current difficult situation,” he said.
