KUCHING: A special Sabah-Sarawak affairs portfolio in the new federal Cabinet has been created to ensure that the interests of both Bornean states are taken care of.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, when announcing his Cabinet list, said the government was serious in addressing the socio-economic development of Sabah and Sarawak.

“My cabinet will ensure that the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63) will be translated into policies and programmes that will directly benefit the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

He said this was why he created the special ministry now headed by Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnny Ongkili who is Parti Bersatu Sabah president and Kota Marudu MP. His deputy is Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.
