KUCHING: SK Laksamana, to a student for children with special needs, could use more teachers for its Program Pendidikan Khas Intigrasi (PPKI).

Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who highlighted the shortage, said the school presently has 88 autistic, dyslexic and Down’s syndrome children.

“The school with 10 classes is supposed to have 15 teachers, but has only 13 teachers.

“I will help to bring it up to Deputy Minister of Education (Lim Hui Ying),” he said in his Facebook posting.

Chong was at the school to officiate its Autism and Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day yesterday.

He commended the teachers of SK Laksamana for their passion and patience for teaching the students under the PPKI programme.

“To teach children with autism and Down’s syndrome is not an easy job, but we must try our very best to give them the best.

“Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to provide them with enough teaching staff and facilities,” he said.
