MUKAH: The Youth and Women wings of Gabunguan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have proposed the setting up of a special welfare savings fund.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief, Gerald Rentap Jabu, said the fund would ensure that welfare aid could be directly given to the recipients.

“In the event of an emergency, sickness, death, fire and other difficult situations for which immediate assistance is needed, the fund can be channelled directly through local party branches,” he said during GPS Flag Rally at Mukah Waterfront before they went to Selangau yesterday.

He explained that channelling the funds through the local party branches would be easier as representatives in the respective constituencies would know those who are genuinely in need.

“I hope our Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, who is also PBB Women’s chief can bring the matter up to our Chief Minister,” he said.

Rentap, who is also Layar assemblyman, stressed that besides striving to restore Sarawak’s eroded rights, GPS must give full attention to the welfare of the people.

“GPS is committed to doing its best to serve the people. Through GPS we can create a good future for Sarawak.”

Today (Jan 14) is the fourth day of the rally. The particpants will continue their journey to Kanowit and then to Kapit where they will spend a night.
