SIBU: Students of SMK St Elizabeth can soon expect to walk safely on the wooden pedestrian bridge as repair work is now being carried out on the structure.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek shared the good news in his Facebook posting, saying at the moment the maintenance work is being done using his Bukit Assek Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund.
“Since the budget of the Public Works Department (PWD) has not been approved, I used the Bukit Assek MRP fund first for the maintenance,” he said.
Chieng was grateful all parties are willing to cooperate to finish the work during the school holiday.
“Hopefully when school starts, the pedestrian bridge provides a safe pathway for students and parents to use,” he said.
“I hope it can be improved more comprehensively in the future so that the nearby residents, students and parents can enjoy a more complete facility,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chieng when contacted also said they were still assessing the cost of the repair work.
“We don’t know the cost yet as the work is still in progress,” he said.
