KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has urged the newly appointed contractor to expedite the completion of the proposed Sarawak Coastal Road Package D3C here.

The RM106.97 million project encompasses a proposed 7-kilometre new single carriageway road along the Kuching Samarahan Trunk Road.

With a new completion period set for Feb 7, 2026, Uggah, who also serves as Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to adhere to the revised timeline.

“This project was previously delayed, but now we have appointed Avinn Engineering Services Sdn Bhd as the contractor.

“So far, everything seems to be on schedule despite the rain. There’s no reason for it to encounter further setbacks because it’s relatively straightforward.

“But I hope the contractor can complete it by the end of 2025,” he told reporters during a working visit to the project site at Kota Samarahan today (Mar 2).

In light of favourable weather projections for the year, Uggah urged the contractor to capitalise on the anticipated low rainfall.

He stressed the need for proactive measures to mitigate potential challenges, citing the example of the Marudi bridge project, where adjustments to the working plan were made to meet ambitious timelines.

“In this area, there is no one blocking the road; rather, the primary obstacle lies in the availability of sand.

“However, this year’s weather forecast indicates the presence of an El Niño phenomenon, although its duration remains uncertain.

“That is good news for contractors. With very low rainfall, contractors must take advantage,” he added.
